See, this is the problem with having a production company that seems to only do remakes of Asian horror films. When a story about you remaking a Chinese period action movie like “House of Flying Daggers” surfaces, people tend to believe it. And why not? The last I heard, Sam Raimi and his Ghost House Pictures were trying to buy the rights to remake that night I threw up in a bar from two years ago. Ah, memories.
Anyways, back to the rumor that Raimi is remaking Zhang Yimou’s “The House of Flying Daggers”, which originally starred Zhang Ziyi, Andy Lau, and Takeshi Kaneshiro and is set in ancient China. The original news, as far as I can tell, surfaced on MoviesOnline not all that long ago via a listing at Production Weekly. It said that Raimi was remaking “House of Flying Daggers”. That was enough to get the Internets all abuzzin’, and the rumor has picked up steam in recent days as more sites sign up to report is. Such as ours. Alas.
So why remake “House of Flying Daggers”? And how is such a thing even possible, unless you’re just going to set it in, say, the Wild West or something? Well no, that wouldn’t really work, given the premise of the original movie.
Of course this could all be wild and unsubstantiated speculation, so whatever. It’s a dull Tuesday, so go with it.
House of Flying Daggers is a truly fantastic foreign film and today while doing some morning reading of Production Weekly I discovered Sam Raimi it seems is going to be remaking the movie. The trend of remaking films is definitely getting out of hand when we start remaking classic asian films which feel like they were literally just released.
I am a huge fan of Sam Raimi but have to ask why he or his production company is so fixated on remakes as of late. They have alot of really cool new original stuff coming including Drag Me To Hell and BURST so what gives with the remakes? Are you interested in seeing a remake of this film?
throw it for the dicussion here May the Force Be With You!
